Mavi Bar

Mavi Bar has been serving drinks on Cumhuriyet Meydanı, the main square of Kaş, since 1985. Its painted wooden chairs in red, yellow, blue and green spread across the square near the Atatürk statue, and the soundtrack is rock.

A meeting point on the square

Mavi means blue in Turkish, and the bar’s own website sums it up in four words: Kaş with rock music. The Turkish food site Yemek.com calls the colourful chairs a symbol of the town and says the bar is at its busiest in the evening. With the old harbour a couple of minutes away, it makes an easy first stop before dinner or a last drink after it.

What to drink

Draught Efes and Belfast are the staples, backed by a long list of bottled beers from Bomonti Filtresiz to Duvel. For something Turkish, order Beylerbeyi Mavi rakı by the measure, or a bottle of Likya wine: Kadyanda red, Arykanda white or Fox blush.

The cocktail list runs from negronis, espresso martinis and whisky sours to house creations such as the English Garden, made with gin, elderflower, basil, lemon and cucumber. Whisky drinkers will find Glenfiddich 12, Talisker and Macallan 12. Coffee, from espresso to frappé, and soft drinks are on the menu too.

Getting there from the yacht

The bar is on the main square, a short walk from the old harbour. From Kaş Marina on the west side of town, which its operator puts about 1 km from the centre, allow around 20 minutes on foot or take a short taxi ride.

Good to know

Mavi Bar does not publish opening hours or a phone number on its website, and opening times change through the season, so check its Instagram account, mavibarkas, before you go. The website is a drinks menu, worth a look to see what is pouring.
