L’apéro

L’apéro brings French bistro cooking and a proper cocktail bar to Kaş old town. Chef Paul Moisson and Ece Ünsal moved from New York to open it in May 2016, and it has been part of the town’s evenings for ten years.

From New York to Kaş

The founders say L’apéro was the first restaurant in Kaş to pair a full dining room with a dedicated cocktail bar, at a time when the town mostly offered taverns and kebab houses. One sailing guide puts the building at around 150 years old. Over the past decade it has hosted jazz concerts, recitals and themed parties, and its best-known event is a costume festival held twice a year.

What to order

The menu is classic French with a Mediterranean slant. Start with escargots, French onion soup, a tomato tart or salmon tartare, or share a cheese or charcuterie platter. Mains include boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin, moules marinière, steak tartare and a Chateaubriand fillet, with sea bream, salmon and vegan dishes too.

Leave room for crème brûlée, tarte tatin or a chocolate soufflé. The bar mixes cocktails to order, and the wine list is long.

Getting there from the yacht

L’apéro is on Doğruyol Caddesi, a few minutes’ walk east of the main square and the old harbour. Kaş Marina, where most yachts berth, is on the west side of town, about 1 km from the centre by the marina’s own reckoning: allow around 20 minutes on foot, or take a short taxi ride.

Good to know

It opens every day from 16:00 until midnight, so it works for an aperitif before dinner as well as for a full meal. Book through the reservation button on its website, or by phone or WhatsApp, especially on event nights. The website’s events page and Instagram account show what is coming up.
