Two hulls, one villa at sea

Luxury Catamaran Charters

Luxury catamaran charters give you the space of a villa on a yacht that barely heels: a saloon that opens onto the deck, cabins in separate hulls and a flybridge for the sunset. We list 85 crewed sailing and power catamarans in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and beyond, each with a professional captain and crew. Tell us your dates and group size, and we will shortlist the right one.

Why a catamaran

Why choose a catamaran charter?

Families, groups of friends and anyone new to yachting often choose a catamaran over a monohull of the same length. These are the reasons, and the few things to weigh against them.

NALANI, a Sunreef 80 Eco sailing catamaran, at anchor over clear turquoise water with her tender alongside
  • Stable under sail and at anchor

Two hulls spread the weight, so a catamaran sails almost level and rolls far less at anchor than a monohull of the same length. Guests who worry about seasickness usually notice the difference.

  • Living space on one level

The saloon, galley and aft cockpit share the main deck and open onto each other through wide glass doors, so the living area becomes one long, light space with views on every side.

  • Cabins apart from each other

Guest cabins sit in the two hulls, often with the master suite forward on the main deck, which keeps couples, or parents and children, at a comfortable distance.

  • A shallow draft

60 of the 78 catamarans with a recorded draft need less than two metres of water (1.3–2.8 m), so they anchor closer to the beach and reach bays that keep deeper yachts further out.

  • Flybridge and foredeck

64 of our catamarans have a flybridge: a second lounge above the saloon with sunpads, a bar and often a second helm. On sailing catamarans the trampoline nets on the foredeck are the place to lie over the water.

  • Swimming made easy

Wide steps lead down to a swim platform on each stern, and on many catamarans the platform between the hulls lowers hydraulically for swimming and launching the tender and toys.

What to weigh against them

A catamaran’s beam can make marina berths harder to find and dearer, so more nights are spent at anchor. In a short, steep sea the bridgedeck between the hulls can slam, and a sailing catamaran points less high into the wind than a monohull, so captains plan passages around the forecast. For most guests the extra space and stability outweigh both.

Sailing or power catamaran?

Both have two hulls and the same generous layout. The difference is how they move, which shapes the days you spend aboard.

Rates

What does a luxury catamaran charter cost?

Among the crewed catamarans priced by the week in euros, rates run from €4,942 to €95,000. Yachts priced in dollars or by the day are shown with their own rates in the table above.

The rate pays for the catamaran, her crew and insurance. Fuel, food, drinks and berths come from an advance provisioning allowance paid with the balance, and VAT is added where the country you cruise charges it. A gratuity for the crew at the end of the week is customary but not required.

23 of our catamarans are offered all-inclusive, with food, drinks and fuel in one weekly price, which makes the budget simpler to plan.

What moves the price

Length and crew
A larger catamaran carries more crew, and crew is a large part of the rate.
Season
July and August in the Mediterranean, and Christmas and New Year in the Caribbean, are the most expensive weeks.
Sailing or power
Power catamarans burn more fuel, which shows in the provisioning allowance.
Where you start
Starting or ending away from the yacht’s base can add a delivery fee.
Crew

Who looks after you on board

Every catamaran on this page is crewed, most often by 3 people. The captain sails the yacht, chooses the anchorages and keeps an eye on the weather; the chef plans menus around your tastes and cooks every meal on board; and a stewardess or deckhand looks after the cabins, the drinks and the water toys. On the largest catamarans the crew grows to a full superyacht team.

Before the charter you fill in a preference sheet with dietary needs, favourite drinks and the pace you would like, and the crew prepares around it. Nobody in your group needs a licence or any sailing experience.

Questions

Luxury catamaran charter FAQs

Is a catamaran better than a monohull for seasickness?

Usually, yes. A catamaran sails almost level and rolls much less at anchor, which is when most people feel unwell on a monohull. In a short, steep sea a catamaran has its own quicker motion, so a captain will still choose sheltered routes on windy days.

How many guests can a luxury catamaran take?

71 of the 85 catamarans we list sleep eight to ten guests, in four or five cabins on most of them. The largest sleeps 16. For a day aboard more people may be allowed, and for a bigger group two catamarans can cruise together.

How much does a luxury catamaran charter cost?

Weekly rates for the crewed catamarans priced in euros on this page run from €4,942 to €95,000. Size, season, crew and where you cruise decide the rate. Unless the yacht is all-inclusive, an advance provisioning allowance for fuel, food, drinks and berths is added, along with VAT where it applies.

Do I need sailing experience to charter a catamaran?

No. Every catamaran on this page comes with a professional captain and crew who sail the yacht, plan the route and look after you, so nobody in your group needs a licence or any sailing experience.

Can a catamaran sail in the Greek meltemi?

Yes. Catamarans sail the Cyclades every summer, and the captain plans passages and anchorages around the meltemi, the strong north wind of July and August. If you would rather avoid it, the Ionian islands and the Saronic Gulf are usually calmer.

What is the difference between a sailing and a power catamaran?

A sailing catamaran uses its sails whenever the wind allows and its engines when it does not; a power catamaran relies on engines alone and cruises faster. Among the catamarans we list, the typical cruising speed is about 9 knots for sailing catamarans and 11.5 knots for power catamarans.

Are catamaran charters all-inclusive?

Some are. 23 of the catamarans on this page are offered all-inclusive, with food, drinks and fuel in one price; the rest charge an advance provisioning allowance on top of the charter rate, and the captain returns what is not spent.

When is the best time for a catamaran charter?

In the Mediterranean, June to September, with May and October quieter and cheaper. In the Caribbean and the Bahamas, December to April, when the trade winds are steady and the hurricane season is over.
