Restaurant· Puerto Portals, South-west coast

Flanigan

Flanigan sits on the quay at Puerto Portals, the marina just west of Palma, with its terrace looking straight over the yachts. It has been part of the port since 1987 and opens every day, from breakfast until late.

From port bar to Portals institution

The restaurant’s own history says that in 1987 Miguel Arias was invited to take over the Bar del Puerto. He saw that people arriving by boat had nowhere ashore for breakfast, a good coffee and a newspaper, so Flanigan began as a breakfast place. It still serves breakfast every morning.

It has since become one of Mallorca’s best-known restaurants, with a loyal following. According to ¡Hola!, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía were regulars for decades, and King Felipe and Queen Letizia have eaten here too.

What to order

The menu follows the seasons, with seafood, rice dishes and fideuà at its heart. Share a few starters first: Spanish tortilla, fried squid, croquettes or garlic prawns. Then order a rice or a fideuà for the table, or ask for the fish of the day.

Leave room for the thin apple tart with vanilla ice cream, the dessert the restaurant itself asks guests to try. Every wine on the list can also be bought to take back to the boat.

Getting there from the yacht

If you are berthed in Puerto Portals, Flanigan is on the marina itself, at Local 16, so it is a short stroll along the quay. From the marinas on Palma’s seafront, Puerto Portals is about 15 minutes away by taxi, which makes it an easy lunch or dinner outing on a day in port.

Good to know

Flanigan is open every day from 9:00 until midnight. Breakfast is served until 12:00 and the kitchen is open from 13:00 to 23:00. Book a table online through the website or by phone, and ask for the terrace if you want to watch the boats. Dogs are welcome.
