Tambakio
Tambakio is a restaurant and beach on St Paul’s Bay at Lindos, on the east coast of Rhodes, with the Acropolis of Lindos above the water. It suits a long lunch after a swim, or dinner as the light fades over the bay.
Below the Acropolis of Lindos
St Paul’s Bay is a natural bay with a chapel built to mark the apostle’s visit, and views up to the acropolis that crowns the white village of Lindos. Tambakio keeps the look simple: pale stone, beach furniture and tables close to the shore, with boats moored in the bay. Travel.gr counts it among the most scenic summer restaurants on Rhodes and says its crowd is relaxed and international, with many staying on for sunset.
What to order
The menu brings the flavours of a Greek summer. Share a Greek meze plate with tyrokafteri, tzatziki and aubergine salad, whipped tarama, spinach pie with feta and yoghurt, or kataifi with graviera, honey and pistachio. From the sea, try grilled octopus with fava and capers, mussels in white wine with fennel, tuna tartare or a carpaccio of the fish of the day. Travel.gr notes that international press coverage has singled out the linguine with mussels and the lobster pasta. The wine list is strong on Greek bottles.
Getting there from the yacht
Anchor in St Paul’s Bay and take the tender to the beach in front of the restaurant. Tambakio also hires out motorboats by the hour, half day or full day for exploring the coast nearby; bring your passport if you want one.
Good to know
The kitchen is open every day from noon until late. Lunch from noon to 6pm is walk-in only. Dinner can be booked up to 14 days ahead, by phone for an immediate answer, and groups are limited to 14. A few cabana beds can be reserved by phone, but sun loungers cannot. Waiters serve the beach from 10am to 5pm. Tables are for diners only, so dress for lunch rather than the beach.
