Lemon Bay Café

Lemon Bay Café is a breakfast and brunch café in the Mirage Plaza on the Baie des Citrons, the Nouméa beach that locals call “BD”. Its colourful terrace faces the bay across the promenade, and it is open every morning until early afternoon.

An Australian-style café on the bay

The café is modelled on an Australian café: a long coffee list, juices and smoothies made in-house and a brunch menu that gives familiar dishes its own twist. The tourism board notes that the salads and bowls are generous and that the cooking relies on fresh ingredients. It has been part of the Baie des Citrons scene for several years and won a travellers’ award in 2020.

What to order

Come for breakfast or brunch. Start with a coffee from the long list or a fresh juice, then choose a smoothie bowl or one of the composed salads and bowls, which are the café’s strength. The brunch dishes are presented with care and change the usual recipes, so ask what is new on the menu that day. Lunch is served too, until the kitchen closes in the early afternoon.

Getting there from the yacht

Visiting yachts berth at Port Moselle or Port du Sud in the city. The Baie des Citrons is about 2.5 kilometres south of Port Moselle in a straight line, a short taxi ride, and the café is across the promenade from the beach, with a free car park nearby. Bring a swimsuit: the tourism board calls it the city’s favourite beach for a swim and some sun.

Good to know

The tourism board lists the café as open every day, all year, from 7am to 2pm, but it marks these hours as unconfirmed, so call ahead. Book a table by phone. The café also delivers through a local delivery service, handy for a picnic on the beach, and it takes cards, cheques and cash.
