Bar· Deià, Sóller and Deià

Sa Fonda

Sa Fonda is the bar on Deià’s main street: a café, bar and music venue with an outdoor terrace above the village lanes. It opened in 1988 and has been a meeting place for locals, artists and visitors to the village for almost four decades.

From village inn to music bar

The building was once the Fonda Coll, Deià’s inn. The Robert Graves Foundation notes that the poet and his family used to eat there on Sundays in the 1950s, when Graves lived in the village.

Sa Fonda keeps its birthdays with a party: Ultima Hora reported its 30th anniversary celebrations in 2018 and its 31st in 2019, and the bar still marks each year with a barbecue and dancing under the ficus tree. Its “Silence is sexy” sign was well enough known that its theft in 2024 made the island’s news.

What to order

The bar has separate menus for drinks, cocktails and long drinks, and wine, so it works for a cold beer in the afternoon as well as a late cocktail. There is also a food menu, with tapas, burgers and cakes, for a light lunch on the terrace. Through the year Sa Fonda hosts live music, DJ nights and exhibitions; its website links to the events and tickets for what is coming up.

Getting there from the yacht

Deià has no harbour. Most yachts on this coast berth at Port de Sóller, about 7 km away in a straight line, and guests come over by taxi along the coast road. In settled weather the yacht may lie off Cala Deià below the village, where the crew will look for a sand patch or a mooring buoy; from the cove it is a walk of half an hour or more uphill to the main street, or a short taxi ride.

Good to know

The website does not publish opening hours, so call before you go, especially out of season. Information and bookings are by phone. Nights with live music or a party get busy, so check the events page before planning the evening.
