Restaurant· Arzachena, Sardinia

Ristorante Lu Stazzu

After days of seafood, Lu Stazzu is the place to taste the food of inland Sardinia. The restaurant fills a restored Gallurese farmhouse in the countryside above the Gulf of Arzachena, a few kilometres from Porto Cervo, and is known for suckling pig roasted on the spit.

A shepherds’ farmhouse

A stazzu is the traditional farmhouse of the Gallura, the north-east corner of Sardinia, and this one stands among olive trees and centuries-old junipers. Inside is a room of handcrafted furniture; outside, a covered veranda looks over the Gulf of Arzachena, with La Maddalena and, on clear days, Corsica beyond.

What to order

The cooking is Sardinian, with meat and fish, and the grill is fired with wood. The dish to order is the porceddu, suckling pig roasted slowly on the spit in the traditional way. Start with homemade cured meats and hand-rolled pasta with wild boar sauce. Everything is ordered à la carte.

It suits a long lunch or a group dinner, and it is good value for one of the most expensive corners of Italy.

Getting there from the yacht

Lu Stazzu is inland, off the road between Arzachena and Porto Cervo at the turning for Baja Sardinia. From the marina at Porto Cervo it is a short drive; your crew can arrange a car or taxi for the evening.

Good to know

The restaurant is seasonal and closes through the winter, so check its dates before planning a visit early or late in the year. Book by phone or through the form on its website, especially for a table on the veranda at sunset.
