Restaurant· Laurito, Positano, Amalfi Coast

Da Adolfo

Da Adolfo is the Amalfi Coast lunch people remember: a rustic restaurant on a small pebble cove east of Positano, reached mainly from the sea. Come by tender from the yacht, swim, eat, and stay on a sunbed until the afternoon.

A cove just east of Positano

Adolfo Bella, a Positano local, opened the restaurant in 1966 with his American wife, Lucille, and their son Sergio runs it today. The kitchen is built into the rocks above the beach at Laurito, and lunch is served on a simple terrace a few steps from the sea.

It has a loyal following and a relaxed, barefoot feel, so book as early as you can.

What to order

Mozzarella grilled on wild lemon leaves is the dish to try, followed by mussel soup or the grilled catch of the day, and fresh fruit tart to finish. The classic order is a cold jug of white wine with sliced peaches.

A good plan for the day is a morning swim off the yacht, lunch at Da Adolfo around one, and an hour on a sunbed before heading back. Prices are moderate for the Amalfi Coast, and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal.

Getting there from the yacht

Laurito is best reached by sea. Your tender can bring you straight to the beach. Guests coming from the town can take the restaurant’s own free boat from Positano’s main pier, a wooden gozzo with a big red fish on its mast, which runs out in the morning and back from mid-afternoon.

Good to know

Da Adolfo is mainly a lunch place, open through the summer season. Bookings are by phone only, and sunbeds can be reserved along with the table. There are showers and changing rooms by the beach.
