Taverna Anema e Core
When dinner on Capri ends, the night often carries on at Taverna Anema e Core, a few steps from the Piazzetta. It is less a bar than a party: a live band, Neapolitan songs that everyone seems to know, and a room that sings along until the early hours.
A Capri institution
The singer Guido Lembo, a Capri fisherman’s son, opened the taverna in 1994 after years playing music abroad. He died in 2022, and his son Gianluigi now leads the house band. The mix is the same as ever: Neapolitan classics, revival hits and improvised sing-alongs, with performers working the room and guests dancing on the tables.
What to expect
This is a late venue. Doors open late in the evening and the music usually starts around midnight, running into the small hours. Drinks are the order of the night; come after dinner rather than for it.
If you have booked a table, ask for one near the stage, where the band and the singing are at their best. The club has welcomed a long list of famous guests over the years, from Naomi Campbell to Giorgio Armani, and on a busy night in August the room feels like the whole island is there.
Getting there from the yacht
Anema e Core is on Via Sella Orta, just off the Piazzetta in Capri town. From Marina Grande, the funicular reaches the Piazzetta in about five minutes, and taxis run late. Agree a pick-up time with your crew if the tender is waiting in the harbour.
Good to know
Tables can be reserved through its website, which is worth doing in July and August; otherwise there is an entrance charge at the door and a queue at peak times. It opens on weekends from Easter, and every night in high summer.
