Omilos
Omilos stands on the rocks at the entrance to Hydra’s harbour, with a white dining room and a terrace above the water. It is a smart choice for a seafood lunch or dinner within walking distance of the boats.
On the rocks at the harbour mouth
Omilos opened in 2006 under Kostas Acheilas and Lisa Bartsioka, who say it follows in the footsteps of the legendary Lagoudera. Travel.gr recalls the yacht club that once stood here, quoting a writer who lived on Hydra in the 1960s and jumped off its rocks at dawn after long nights out. Today the setting is calmer: white, minimal interiors, an outdoor patio and wide views over the Saronic Gulf, with waves breaking below. In summer the dinner service turns into a late-night bar.
What to order
Head chef Dimitris Kantarakis, who has worked at Varoulko in Piraeus and Geranium in Copenhagen, cooks modern Mediterranean food around locally caught fish. Start with marinated sea bass with sea urchin, octopus marinated in apple vinegar, or finely chopped calamari with mussels in squid-ink cream. For a main course, choose the seafood risotto, lobster with spaghetti alla chitarra or a whole fresh fish. Travel.gr singles out the deconstructed Greek salad.
Getting there from the yacht
Omilos is at the harbour entrance, so from a berth in Hydra’s port it is a short walk round the quay. Guests can also arrive by boat, and the restaurant says it is easy to reach by sea or on foot.
Good to know
The restaurant serves lunch and dinner. Book by phone or through the website, and book well ahead in high season. Online requests are confirmed by the restaurant, and tables are held for two hours.
