The Club Restaurant at Green Turtle Club

The pub is hung with burgees left by visiting yacht clubs, and its walls are covered in signed dollar bills. The resort says the habit began in the Club’s early days, when retired Second World War fighter pilots pinned up signed notes so that friends arriving later could have a drink on them. Look for the one signed by Jimmy Carter. The house drink is the Tipsy Turtle rum punch, which the resort says Esquire named the best rum punch in the Caribbean.

At lunch, go for the homemade lobster salad or the Bahamian staples: cracked conch, conch chowder, conch fritters and grouper. There is a lunch special every day, and breakfast includes French toast made with Bahamian bread.

Dinner is overseen by consulting executive chef Michael Howell. The menu is split into casual “Club Fare”, more ambitious “Creative Cuisine” and regional “Abaco Favorites”. In the evening the patio tables are laid with linen and candles, and there is an indoor dining room too.

White Sound is reached by a dredged channel with about 7 feet (2.1 m) at mean low water. The Club’s marina has 40 slips for yachts up to 130 feet, with fuel, including diesel, and dockmasters who meet arriving boats. Small tenders can use the complimentary dock. The Club rents golf carts, and the settlement of New Plymouth is a short ride away on the paved road.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served every day, according to the resort. Book dinner ahead in the busy months and check times by phone in the autumn, when hours on the cays can change. There is a children’s menu, a full bar and a long wine list.
