Firefly Bar & Grill
Firefly Bar & Grill is the restaurant of Firefly Sunset Resort, a small resort on the Sea of Abaco side of Elbow Cay, about 2 km south of Hope Town harbour. It is open to visitors as well as resort guests, and its deck looks west over the water towards the sunset.
A resort rebuilt after Dorian
The resort opened quietly in late 2010 and held its grand opening in 2011. Hurricane Dorian hit Hope Town directly in 2019, destroying two of its villas and badly damaging the dock, the outside bar and the dining deck. The dock, bar and deck have all been rebuilt, and the bar and grill now serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.
What to order
Come early for breakfast, served every day from 8am to 11am, and on a Sunday go for the special Bahamian breakfast. Dinner is the main event, from 5.30pm to 9pm, when the deck catches the evening light over the Sea of Abaco. Ask what the kitchen is cooking that day, and have a drink at the rebuilt outside bar before you sit down.
Getting there from the yacht
Firefly has its own dock slips on the Sea of Abaco, and the resort says boats can pull up directly to it, so a tender run from an anchorage off Elbow Cay is straightforward. There is a reef just off the property for snorkelling before lunch. By land, it is on Centre Line Road, a short golf-cart ride south of the settlement.
Good to know
Book dinner online through the resort’s booking page or by phone. Reservations are strongly encouraged in the evening, while breakfast and lunch are first come, first served. Groups of 12 or more need to call or email. Takeaway orders are placed in the resort boutique until 8pm. The island’s power, and with it the phone line, sometimes fails, so email if you cannot get through.
