Psaropoulos Fish Tavern

Psaropoulos is a family fish tavern on the main road into Latchi, about 500 metres before the harbour, with tables looking over the beach. The Psaropoulos family has run it for more than 30 years.

A family fish tavern

Latchi is a small fishing harbour on the bay of Chrysochou and the starting point for boat trips along the Akamas coast to the Blue Lagoon. Psaropoulos serves fresh fish and fish meze every day, cooked simply, and its terrace by the beach is at its best before dark, when the view across the bay is clear. Cypriot families eat here as well as visitors.

What to order

The fish meze, for two or more, is the classic order: tahini, taramas, salad, mussels, calamari, octopus, small fish, prawns, sea bream and cuttlefish. Fresh mussels come by the half kilo or the kilo, cooked with wine, onion and oregano or with cream and garlic.

From the grill, try red mullet, swordfish, sea bass or scaros, or order by the kilo from the day’s catch, such as dog-tooth grouper, red snapper or lobster. The captain’s platter, with prawns, calamari, octopus, fish, mussels and halloumi, suits two.

Getting there from the yacht

From Latchi harbour, walk about 500 metres east along Akamantos Avenue, the beach road towards Polis; it takes five to ten minutes. If the yacht is anchored in the bay, come ashore by tender in the harbour and walk from there.

Good to know

The website gives opening hours of 10am to 10pm and says the tavern is closed on Tuesdays. Book by phone for a table near the beach at sunset.
