Porto Palermo Restaurant
Porto Palermo is a near-round bay south of Himarë, with Ali Pasha’s castle on a small peninsula jutting into it. Porto Palermo Restaurant & Bar stands by the coast road above the water, and its tables look across the bay to the castle.
Lunch facing the castle
The castle is the landmark of the bay, and this restaurant is the place to eat while you look at it. Inside, the room mixes stone, old wood and antique objects; outside, the terrace faces the water and the fortress.
It is open from the morning, so it works for coffee after an early swim, a long seafood lunch, or a drink on the terrace before the yacht moves on.
What to order
The kitchen is known for seafood, crudo and homemade desserts. Start with the shrimp crudo, a mixed crudo plate, or sea bass or octopus carpaccio, with saganaki shrimps to share. Then order grilled calamari, sepia or a mixed seafood grill, or a whole red mullet, sea bass or bream. From the pasta list, try the paccheri with monkfish or the risotto with cuttlefish ink. Leave room for dessert.
Getting there from the yacht
Porto Palermo is one of the regular anchorages on a Riviera charter, as a lunch stop or for the night. Anchor in the bay and take the tender in to Palermo beach; the restaurant is about 100 metres from the beach, a short walk up to the road.
Good to know
The restaurant opens every day from 08:00. Its website gives two closing times, 21:00 and 23:00, so call ahead if you plan a late dinner. Book by phone or email, and ask for a table on the terrace with the view of the castle.
