Snack & Wine Bar Mažinin

Mažinin is a casual snack and wine bar in the centre of Portorož, with a terrace looking over the coast. It is open all day, from the first coffee to a late glass of wine, and makes an easy stop between the marina and the town.

Istria on the promenade

Mažinin is the Istrian dialect word for a coffee grinder, once used for coffee or barley, and the owners take their coffee seriously. They describe the bar as bringing Istria to the heart of Portorož, with wines from recognised producers, local beers and a short menu of casual food.

On certain evenings there is live music, and once a week the kitchen adds a special dish to the menu.

What to order

The wine list has more than 80 labels from Slovenian and Croatian Istria, so ask the staff to choose a local white or red by the glass. Order a board of cold cuts to go with it, or one of the burgers and tacos made with local meat and Istrian flavours.

Cocktails, Istrian craft beers and draught Laško are on the menu too, and in the morning the bar serves coffee with a brioche and fresh juice.

Getting there from the yacht

Obala 55 is on the main seafront road in the centre of Portorož, about 15 minutes’ walk from Marina Portorož along the promenade.

Good to know

Mažinin is open every day from early morning until midnight, and until 1am from Wednesday to Saturday. There is space indoors as well as on the terrace, which helps on a windy evening. For a larger group, call ahead.
