When it comes to superyacht charter, latest models from San Lorenzo and Azimut are stealing the limelight in the past few years.  The sale numbers and trends also replicate in the charter market where such models are one of the most sought after motor yachts, both in the Mediterranean as well as in the Caribbean.  One other type of superyacht is even more popular these days however. And we are not talking about a motor yacht, but about a sailing boat.  It is the 80ft catamaran range, be it a Lagoon 77, Lagoon 78 power or indeed the most popular of them all the sublime Sunreef 80.  Celebrities such as Rafael Nadal and Keke Rosberg own such new yachts, in one or the other guise, smaller or bigger, power or sail or even ECO as the latest trends are bringing new models with electric or self-generating engines.

Sunreef 80

When it comes to Sunreef 80 all has already been said, but what about it in terms of yacht charter choice.  We know that despite her price point of 6 million Euros +, she is seen as an all-round leisure yacht ideal for exclusive sailing holidays or as the case may be circumnavigations or simply transatlantic crossings specialized by companies such as A2A YACHTING.   Sunreef as a brand is by now known in every corner of the globe as a luxury shipyard with exceptional interiors, high quality materials and most recently improved sailing performance too.   With Sunreef 80, the shipyard has struck a cord with super-rich and celebrities more than ever and as such, this type of a boat deserves extra attention.  Even the Sunreef 70, as exclusive as she is and as beautiful and modern as any other type of sailing catamaran around, are simply not in the same league. One can be namely seen as a super-luxury catamaran (70ft) but maybe not as a superyacht as Sunreef 80 is.  A chef on board of a Sunreef 80 is expected to be schooled at best culinary schools in Europe, captain must be the most experienced professional on the market with years of experience sailing on similar vessels, and in particular in the area where clients wish to charter and the rest of the crew must be both qualified, educated and as courteous and professional as the clientele may demand.

With a number of unique or special solutions such as a clever bridge deck and superstructure design which allow for a exceptional levels of luxury, comfort and space onboard Sunreef 80 provides all what superyacht charter clients may demand these days.  Space is in particular achieved with high bulwarks which in combination with aforementioned high-quality design which provides stunning lines and looks, ascertains the executives, successful and rich that they will be on board of a yacht with an edge.  Buyers of a Sunreef 80 may also choose a number of customization options, which is what leads us to different models already on the yacht charter market. Huge 50m2+ is likely to be available on all models, and most will also have a Jacuzzi, huge array of water toys and expected luxuries such as vast, classy staterooms, top bathrooms and both alfresco and formal dining areas in the interior.  Where they mostly differ though, is in the layout, where either owner set-up is provided with a vast master suite and 3-VIP guest cabins or with 5x equal sized double cabins.  They may also be priced differently and have different interior colour pallets, designs, materials and slight variations in equipment.  Most are also based in specific locations, without much flexibility in terms of an itinerary as a such as ENDLESS HORIZON, an exceptional Sunreef 80 will be permanently based in the British Virgin Islands.   GENNY is exclusively based in Greece, 7X in Croatia and the best value GRAYONE in the Balearics. Given each clients specific requirements for an expected layout, design and as suggested crew experience and qualifications, finding that best choice, the ultimate solution for your next superyacht charter vacation, be it in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, is not always easy.  I therefore hope this blog will serve as a long term, easy accessible reference to what is out there or what can be arranged.  Its also worth comparing the existing SUNREEF 80 to a NEW VAAN R8 designs of which are completed just this autumn.  You can now order both Sunreef 80 and VAAN R8 with delivery within 18 months in most cases.   Lagoon 77’s are sold up to 2023 as well, thus we invite you to consider all models, compare them carefuly and choose wisely.  Sunreef has already started production of a NEW Sunreef 100, which is likely to be available already in Summer 2022 and for charters in the Mediterranean with giga-cat Sunreef 140 due in 2024 most likely.  VAAN shipyard may also consider VAAN R12 in the future though, thus your choice may be getting bigger even in this giga-cat segment.

Before I go back to Sunreef 80 availability for charter during 2022 and 2023 season, I am pleased to suggest major differences between the Vaan R8 and Sunreef 80 below. To compare this to Lagoon 77 as well, we will wait on your enquiry of course.

Sunreef 80

Lagoon 77 v Sunreef 80 v VAAN R8:
First, VAAN R8 is a NEW type of a boat which focuses on Style, Substance and most importantly Sustainability.  To be built from 100% recycled or recyclable materials, she will have exclusively self-generating electric engines, retractable centre-boards, light aluminium frame and many other features such as code-0 sail, environment and barefoot friendly cork decking, optional enclosed cockpit, and so on. This is based on current designs for R5 (www.supersailyachts.com/r5) and pricing which is likely to be below that of a new Sunreef 80.  Sunreef 80 remains top in terms of luxury and maybe even space, yet quality of design and build are likely to be remain very similar.  The main difference, for now at least, is exclusivity of a Sunreef 80 versus uniqueness and better sailing performance (expected) of a VAAN R8.

Sunreef 80 availability:
There are 3x such boats in the Caribbean at the moment, with one considering USA Atlantic Coast or Europe in summer too.
There are 5x Sunreef 80’s in the Med for 2022 season.  RELENTLESS 80 with owner set up is the latest, due to be launched towards the end of the year and available for Christmas/NEW Year, although mostly booked. Below are their official brochures with online availability for both summer 2022 and winter season 2021/22. All are exceptional and in their own way best.  GRAYONE in Spain/Balearics is really good value, FANTASTIC TOO in Croatia is good option. GENNY is only option in Greece (5xcabin model though) although 7X will consider going there from Croatia on request.  BUNDALONG is maybe best value in the Caribbean.  Please check details below and let me know what boat or period is of most interest.
